How to make Scott-dish

Do you have a meal that you know exactly where you were and who you were with the first time you had it?  And it has become a favorite comfort-food?

I do.  I was between my junior and senior years in college, living in University Village.  My friend Scott invited me over for dinner.  We'd been coworkers and friends for 2 years and I didn't know he could cook!  He whipped up this hotdish and it was awesome.

Here's what you need:
2 boxes macaroni and cheese
1 can pork and beans
1 lb hamburger

That's it, really!

Brown your hamburger.

Boil the water.

When it's boiling, add the noodles.

Keep browning...

When it's browned, add the can of pork and beans and heat through.

When the noodles are tender, drain them.

Add milk and butter to the kettle, per package directions, along with cheese packets.

Return the noodles to the pan.

Add the beans-n-beef mixture.

And that's it!  We had it with cucumber salad and it's always a big hit in our house.

Even though Scott's mother originated this recipe, it will forever be known in our house as Scott-dish.

  1. Looks somewhat like the ersatz Beefaroni I make when we go camping...which always gets slathered in ketchup.

  3. Too funny guys, I have always added one can of tomato soup, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Of course just a dab of each.

  4. We do the ketchup, tomato soup and worcestershire sauce as well, but not mustard... I don't think!
